The Turning Point

The Turning Point was on tonight. Potboiler, but absolutely lovely dancing. Wonderful. However, something weird.

Leslie Browne is a dancer. And a good one. But not an actress, at least not at the time the film was made. And I saw that she got an oscar nomination for her supporting role in this film. I am confused. I found her acting to be -- absolutely awful. No other way to put it.

Wait now. Come to think of it, I don't like Brando's acting either, and he's God to a lot of people, including a lot of actors. So maybe I don't know what good acting is.

Okay. Thinking.

When I see Brando, he seems to me to be very self-aware, very mannered, posturing. Browne was the same way. So maybe I just like actors to sink into the role, become the role, not be so obvious. I'll have to think about this. Maybe it's just personal preference.

You know one of the greatest acting roles ever? Peter Sellers in Being There. That was acting.
