A robin has made a nest right outside the back door, on top of one of the meters, right against the house. Couldn't be any more exposed if she tried. She's now on her second round of eggs, the first batch of babies having already departed.
Up until this week, every time I stuck my head outside the door she's left the nest and swooped over to the other side of the yard and waited until I go back inside to return. The last couple of days she's sticking on the nest. Granted, I have only just stuck my head outside, not my actual body, but still. Before when I did that, she whipped right away.
It's so very cool to see her sitting there on her eggs. Just a few feet away, looking determinedly in the other direction, pretending I'm not there. Even though she appears to be getting easier with me, I'm going to keep my back yard visits to a minimum. She doesn't need the stress.
She's so pretty.
That's awesome, mom. I remember when we had a really big spider web in the same spot. The spider was there every night when I came home from work. Nature is a wonderful time.
